Grilled General Tao-Style Tofu Burger

Ingredients

  • 2 sesame Kaiser rolls
  • 225 g firm tofu
  • 75 g bean sprouts
  • ½ tomato, sliced
  • 50 g arugula
  • 4 Boston lettuce leaves
  • 1 finely chopped green onion
  • 125 ml Saigon Gourmet Sweet-and-Sour Sauce (or Extra-Spicy Sweet-and-Sour Sauce for a spicier flavour)
  • Preparation: 10 minutes

The grilled General-Tao-style tofu burger is a fusion dish that was popularized in the U.S. The sweet and spicy ginger flavours add some kick to your burger!

Preparation

  1. Cut the tofu into two slices and sear over high heat for 3 minutes.
  2. Add the Sweet-and-Sour Sauce and allow it to reduce over medium heat for 2 minutes while stirring the tofu.
  3. Remove the tofu and set the sauce aside for assembly.
  4. Cut open the Kaiser rolls and top with the reduced Sweet-and-Sour Sauce.
  5. Add the cooked and seasoned tofu, the tomato slices, the bean sprouts, the arugula and Boston lettuce leaves.
  6. Garnish with green onions. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Serve with Sunrise Sesame Salad.

Note

Use chicken instead of tofu for a whole new General Tao experience!
